Ellie takes the stand: 23rd April

Ellie (30) has been a singer in a band signed by Island Records, a farmer and a nursery school teacher. One character reference was from the nursery school head who said Ellie was an exceptional teacher & she is welcome back anytime. She joined Palestine Action after receiving an email about them successfully shutting down an Israeli arms factory in the UK.

Ellie described being very tired and anxious before the action against Elbit Systems. When her barrister asked “Why did you go ahead with the action?” Ellie said:

Because it was necessary. Having worked with children, I would choose one child over any amount of property any day. Being tired and anxious doesn’t equate to children being blown up.

After the court decision to retrial, Ellie gave a moving speech about the children in Palestine:

Under cross-examination Ellie said: “I don’t agree the damage was criminal”

The prosecution alleged that Ellie ‘resisted arrest’. Does this look like resisting?

She was shouting and struggling because she was in pain. She was on the floor after being tasered. She had 2 barbs from the taser in her body. The arresting officer is pulling her around and STANDING on her with these barbs in place. Ellie was tasered for a second time after the officer failed to remove the barbs and discharge on Sam.

We are approaching closing statements and once again it’s clear on the night of the action the activists were met with escalating violence from the guards and officers.

Please mobilise outside of the court this week, its vital our presence is felt inside and outside of court.
